With self-watering trays for plants, prized flowers and herbs can fill themselves up whenever they need a drink. In essence, this is a mini capillary table which will keep potted plants watered for up to 14 days. The surface area of roughly 2.4 square feet can hold one large plant container or several smaller ones for use on grow tables, countertops or large windowsills.

Our self-watering trays feature a base reservoir tray which contains a "stilted" inner support platform which is covered in capillary matting. The base tray provides a reservoir of eight liters (about 2 gallons) of water. By ensuring that compost exposed at the bottom of plant pots is in contact with the capillary matting, the plants will water themselves! A self-watering tray is invaluable for keeping plants watered for those going away on vacation. The size of the unit also makes it particularly useful for use in greenhouses.

The base tray and inner support platform are manufactured from recycled polypropylene and polystyrene, respectively.

Self-Watering Tray Features:

  • 8-liter (2.18-gallon) reservoir tray
  • Compost or soil absorbs water when it contacts the capillary matting
  • Made from recycled plastic
  • Dimensions: 15.25 in. W x 22.5 in. L x 2 in. H

Amazing

These trays are amazing! I was not optimistic when I ordered one of these trays but they have been fantastic for my house plants. I definitely recommend! And Greenhouse megastore is the best.....I will order more!

The Best

I absolutely love these. I now have several of them. I can go away on trips for a week at a time and not have to worry about my plants. Makes watering a once a week or two chore not a daily chore. The trays are built to last. Really well made. The wick mat is a disposable item that will need changed out from time to time. Buy some extras.

Love this tray

I love the self-watering tray. I have bought at least 10-12 of them over the years. They are great for both seed starting and for watering larger plants. By cutting a small hole in the capillary mat, it is easy to check whether or not they need more water. I do have to replace the capillary mats as they wear out.

Great Product

As a weekend gardener, these trays are indispensable. I keep buying more each year. The wicking material wears out after a couple of years, but you can now buy replacement capillary matting. My preference is to replace it with polar fleece- it wicks just as well and is washable and indestructible.

Heavy Duty

Wonderfully made product that should last for many years. It is manufactured in England and as a rule the British product is extremely well made.

Large Self Watering Plant Tray

These are made in England, and appear to be durable. I do container gardening. I add microfiber cloth from Home Depot to give extra wicking power, keep the included mat clean, and make even better contact with the soil. Use the right style pot, no side drain, and most (about 2/3) of the bottom drain holes should contact the mat (or in my case, the microfiber covering the mat, which is also adding more layers to wick the water up from the reservoir). I use all the way from the small 3 inch pots all the way up to and including some 2.7 gallon pots 9tray holds 2 2.7 gal. pots. This tray will hold 12 of the Belden 5.25 x 6.5 Jumbo Senior Square PotSKU: CN-BLJN .

Holy grail of seed starting

This is the answer to your seed starting and plant growing! Just keep the water supplied and forget about the worrying. This is almost automatic!

Arielle

Works pretty well! I normally bottom-water my Mimulus (monkeyflower) plants twice per day, then let the water flow out. The self watering tray is much less labor intensive, and mostly does the job. I do have to give the plants a good soaking about once per week, otherwise the soil on top starts to dry out. Didn't really work for seedlings - presumably they don't have enough root mass to pull the water up. Also, once there is water in the tray it is pretty hard to move it without spilling water everywhere, due to the size & shallowness of the tray. But I liked it overall and have purchased five more.
