Works for me
As a stand alone greenhouse, it would not suffice for me due to severe snow storms in my area. It is serving my purpose. My old greenhouse has a strong metal frame but the corrugated plastic panels were eroding. The old frame is 8ftx8ftx8 ft. I used the plastic cover (9ftx9ftx8ft) of my new greenhouse to put down over my metal frame like a pillow case and it worked. I am not using the metal poles that came with it.
installation easy, looks good. But we had our first rain & there is a leak! there's water droplets coming down along the spine of the structure.
I assembled it myself in less than an hour. I like it. I think it was well-constructed. No complaints.
This little greenhouse was perfect for growing bedding plants and pushing planters along. Took strong ND winds tied down well and EZ to put up, take down and store...hung in shop on wall...I'm sure I would never have got it back in storage bag it came with...I did try!Plan on ordering another one this spring! Loved it for the price and simplicity! Highly recommend for hobby gardeners!
Well, we'll see how it holds up to the summer sun but it is more than equal to the high winds we get here. Had to buy some giant nails to stake it down as the alum. ones don't penetrate this tough calichi here in the high desert. One interior velcro tab was missing - thought that was sort of strange. So far, so good.
Not What I Expected
As long as the weather was good winter weather, it was fine. 2 years ago lots of snow & ice--flimsey roof supports collapsed. I replaced the roof supports the next year--lots of snow & ice--roof supports broke--froze the plants due to the roof collapsing down onto the plants. They need strong steel supports, not the plastic. I would not purchase another one unless it had steel support framework.
I bought two of these and both had defective roof support poles. FlowerHouse shipped replacements immediately. Set up by following instructions to the letter was difficult. Through trial and error we figured out a much better, easier, and quicker way to do it and so the second one went up fast and easy. Now that they are up and zipped together, I couldn't be happier! I wish I had bought them years earlier. I particularly like the numerous vents, It allows for a variety of venting options. When zipped up and closed completely, it withstood two windy storms quite well.
Good for the price
This is my second Farmhouse. The first one we left up for 4 years before needing to replace. I would take this greenhouse down from late spring until fall to extend the life, but works very well.
Wasn't worth it for me
Well, it was great while it lasted. But I expected, from the hype, that this would last me at least two seasons while I worked on the yard and other things and made preparations to find a more permanent solution. It didn't. We live in Central Florida and although we seldom get freezes, when we do, the plants die. And we get at least one every year. And as these can be unexpected, the idea was to leave it up all winter. I had it up for about six months which is probably about six weeks to two months past the possible frost window when the problems started to show so it definitely wouldn't have lasted a second winter. The design of this tent that makes it collapsible is also it's big flaw because there is not adequate bracing to keep the poles from stressing the seam areas and corners as it tries to fold up on itself while erected. I did not see any evidence of rotted thread as another person reported, but what I did get was a lot of splitting near the seams and at the corners. This indicates that the durability of the fabric is probably not worth the price anyway. The design of the cover is really good, but the other flaws make it not worth the expense. Especially when one finds oneself mulling over impossible options of finding a way to secure it to a non-permanent framework that will not be in violation of city code to extend it's life. Which is getting ridiculous. I hope they work on improving the frame and find a better fabric. I'll probably end up sticking some poles in the ground and taping mylar to them as the next freeze approaches.
We purchased two of these in October of 2008. Went together fairly easily and worked well. Now in December of 2009 the peak of one has split end to end and the plastic around the zippers is splitting on both of them. They don't seem to hold up well to the UV as the plastic looks to have broken down where it is separating. It's not the seams coming apart. We spent of $500 for the two of them and for a one year lifetime, we wouldn't purchase them again. We live in north Georgia, so we're not in an extreme environment.
Amazingly easy to put up, only 25 min. and roomy inside with ease to move around & care for plants. Neighbors & family impressed too! I can't wait to purchase supplies!
Bought this unit in Aug of 07 Set up was OK and it did work in the 1 season I used it. Now in Oct 08 found roof split open every were they sewed it with plain old cotton Patched that and the the door zipper split same problem. Dry rotted cotton thread. This unit is not made for long term use. Trashed the whole thing and bought a Solexx unit. Lower cost to heat and built real sound. If you want to put this unit up and take it down every season it may last longer. I suggest you spend extra for a real greenhouse of longer lasting material.
Loved it BUT
I loved my farmhouses. I order 2 last November. Zipped them together and was so happy. But the summer here in Florida was not bad this year and my roof dried out and split open and the material is drying out and splitting. I had the shade cloth on the whole time. I would not recommend this product for the south.
This is a great deal for starting plants. The only concern I had was the wind, but after tying it down real good, it sustained the strongest winds of the spring. I loved this greenhouse!
