This classic salad tomato produces loads of golf-ball-size, bright red fruit with good flavor. Plants keep on bearing for many weeks. For easier harvesting, support plants with stakes or cages.
Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting outdoors, sowing 2 seeds per pot or cell. Harden off seedlings by putting them outside during the day for 1 week before transplanting. Transplant seedlings to the garden 20-30 inches apart when nighttime temperatures remain above 55'F. Enrich the soil with compost before planting. Use plastic mulch to retain heat in the soil.
To avoid diseases, don't plant where tomatoes or peppers have grown in the last two years. Water regularly to keep soil evenly moist. Tomatoes are juiciest and most flavorful if picked when bright red.
