I have seed-spreading trees and shrubs all around my vegetable garden. Plastic mulch makes it easy to prevent their seeds from establishing in my beds. This little device is the best yet for piercing the plastic mulch where I want to insert pea, bean, squash or other direct-planted seeds. After I create the hole, I spread the opening with my fingers, drop in the seed, cover it with soil and firm it in. The bean and pea seeds are first sprouted in water. Squash seeds are direct planted. I have had a very high success rate planting this way.
