Popular in the US since the late 1800, this variety blanches to a yellowish gold by fall. The stalks are large reaching up to 2 feet in height with medium green foliage.
When and Where to Plant: Start seeds indoors or in hot bed 10-12 weeks before last frost. Set plants out after last frost. For later crop (180 days) sow directly outdoors in sunny location after last frost. Cultivate soil deeply and enrich with vegetable food and organic matter. Firm soil over seed.
Care: Keep soil moist and feed every 4 weeks.
Harvesting: Harvest outer leaves before they become stringy.
