The most popular of all pleasant scented herbs. The long-lasting, fragrant leaves and blossoms of this tender perennial are used to perfume soaps, potpourri, sachets, flower arrangements, pillows, bath and toilet waters, and even stuffing in chairs. Makes an ideal fragrant hedge or edging.
When and where to plant: Select sunny location with well-drained soil and plant after soil warms. For earlier maturity, start seeds indoors 6-10 weeks before outdoor planting time. Soil should be cultivated, firmed over the seed, and kept moist.
Care: Prune immediately after blooming to keep bushes compact. Requires protection in severe winter areas.
Harvesting: Cut stems as flowers open. Hang in bunches, upside down, or dry flat on a tray in a warm, airy, shady place for several weeks.
