Great

Works fantastic. Start my seeds in smaller plugs then place them in these cow pots. Then plant directly in garden. Thanks

No transplant shock

Have used the square pots #3 and #4 square tall for 2 years now. Followed watering directions, and have had no problem.

The lure of Manure

Since I'm starting my plants outside the soil stays moist and the pots mostly dry. When it's going to rain hard or extensively I bring the trays inside. I'm really pleased.

Nice pots

I really like these pots and the fact that they do not have peat. I will still open up the bottom of the pots when I plant them just to give the plant a little extra help when i put it in the garden.

Good quality

First, I have been gardening for more than 50 years and have used many types of peat and cow pots. I bought several types from Greenhouse Megastore, so this review is for square, round and strips. All have held up well while my seedlings were growing to a size for final planting. Did not have any break apart in a matter of days, as did some others. Will definitely buy these again.

Moldy pots, smell like manure, and contributed to damping off

I purchased thesethrough another vendor, but since I buy my plastic pots here, I think others should know these negatives. My intent was to move away from plastic pots and find a more environmentally alternative. I run a small farm and depend on seedling sales as a large part of my income. I typically grow 2 1/2 month old tomato plants. At first I was concerned that the pots would degrade too quickly, but what turned out to be the bigger concern was the pot's water retention. If the sides of the pot are not exposed to air, they retain water. If they are are in trays with compartments and the sides of the tray are touching the pot, the sides will not dry out. Ultimately, I feel they contributed to a major loss due to damping off. I read later that the company suggests exposing the sides to air, but who has time to move thousands of pots around so the sides dry out? They also grow mold, which the manufacturer says is not harmful to the plants, but who wants to smell moldy pots in a confined space? Further, at different times during the process there was definitely a strong cow manure smell. My seedlings spend time in my house, and it was unpleasant. I was also disappointed to find they are not certified for Organic use. I think the concept is great, but the negatives out weigh the positive for my use as a small sized commercial grower. If you do decide to use them, pay close attention to watering and make sure the sides dry out.

I love these pots

I am absolutely in love with my cowpots! They are absolutely nothing like the peat-based pots you find everywhere. The roots actually grow through the pots rather than spiraling inside. I can't recommend these enough to everyone!
