Grommeted Panel

The edges of these panels are sewn with heavy-duty reinforcing tape. Brass grommets are installed on approximately two-foot centers around the perimeter. They often include a seam where two pieces of shade have been sewn together. The panels are durable and easy to install with ropes, bungees or wire. It's the most durable solution for smaller areas where the shade cloth will be suspended between four points. Grommeted panels are sold in pre-cut sizes or ordered in any custom size.

Precut Panel

A raw piece of shade fabric where the edges of the panel are not reinforced with any tape or grommets. It would not typically have a seam but may have a raw (cut) edge. They can be installed with wiggle wire, shade cloth clips or wooden lath. Precut panels are sold in precut sizes or can be ordered in any custom size.

Bulk (currently viewing)

Sold in factory widths by the linear foot. It would only rarely have a seam and the sides typically include a factory-finished (uncut) edge. The most cost-effective solution for large quantities of shade fabric.

While many plants like sun, others aren't so fond of it. Use 70% Aluminet™ shade fabric to safely prevent most light from entering your greenhouse. Aluminet is a special reflective shade cloth that was developed to offer better temperature regulation, frost protection and pest repellence than traditional black cloth. The 70% light blocking is ideal for orchids and ferns, and you can also use Aluminet sun shade material to provide temperature relief and privacy for garages, pet enclosures and patios.

With its durable metallicized HDPE fibers and lockstitch construction, Aluminet shade cloth will stay intact even if you leave the edges unfinished. It can be set up as a permanent barrier or moving screen, depending on your plant requirements. Purchasing reflective shade fabric in bulk is a smart choice for large projects that require unique panel shapes or custom hanging. We sell it per foot with several width options and tiered volume discount pricing to give you the best deal.

70% Aluminet Cloth Features:

  • Bulk shade cloth has an unfinished edge that does not include reinforcing tape or grommets.
  • Unlike woven shade cloth, the tough lockstitch construction of the knitted material will prevent unfinished edges from unraveling.
  • Bulk shade cloth can be easily cut with a sharp pair of scissors to any desired size.
  • Bulk pieces can be attached using snap grommets, zip ties or other fastening methods.

Hanging Instructions

When hanging shade cloth pieces larger than 100 square feet, you may need extra center support to prevent the cloth from sagging in the middle. One easy way to do this is by running lightweight cables from each corner to the opposite corner, forming an X pattern that the cloth can rest on. For pieces larger than 400 square feet, you may need cables running end to end every four feet or so.

great shade cloth

This shade cloth is easy to work with. I sew a casing along the edge and put in a pvc pipe. Then the stress from the wind is evenly distributed. It lasts 10 years on my greenhouse roof used 9 months of the year. Be sure you buy the correct density. 60% is best for orchids.

Works great for a shade structure

Used this to create the shade in a shade structure and it worked great. Provides plenty of shade, but lets the wind through so it doesn't bring down your structure. Works great with the plastic grommets along with ball bungies and rope to attach to the PVC pipe skeleton.

Tips for Usage

I live in the desert so these are priceless - winter and summer. I've been using them for 5 years now - it is true that grommets of any kind- even the shark bites will not work on the aluminet. I started using spring clamps instead and have not had one tear from wind related problems - even in 50mph winds (we live on a mesa in the high desert). They will tear if you place them over something sharp - such as the end of a pipe on a pipe structure; when billowing in the wind. Advantages of this product far out-way the disadvantages.

Aluminet 70%

The shade cloth cuts sun as well as I had hoped, disperses it nicely. But despite sewing rather large (1'x1')and sturdy gussets at each corner and then at midpoints, the cloth tore out under moderate pressure. 30 mph winds were just too much for it. Might be really nice for mild weather, but I wouldn't consider buying this again.
