FREE HIGH TUNNEL GRANT

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers a federal grant which provides technical and financial assistance to help farmers, ranchers and forest landowners. The goal of the grant is to assist producers to extend the growing season for high value crops in an environmental safe manner.

High tunnel systems provide farmers with year-round protection from severe weather and extended growing seasons. This reduces energy use by providing consumers with a local source of fresh produce, while also improving air quality by reducing transportation inputs. Furthermore, these tunnels help improve plant and soil quality, and decrease nutrient and pesticide transportation.

Supporting Practices

Supporting practices may be needed to ensure that resource concerns associated with implementing and managing high tunnel systems are addressed. These conservation practices may include:

  • Critical Area
  • Planting
  • Diversion Grassed Waterway
  • Mulching
  • Irrigation System, Micro-irrigation
  • Subsurface Drain
  • Surface Drainage, Field Ditch
  • Underground Outlet
